about the artist

A photo of the artist in a white shirt smiling in the sunshine.

hi, I'm marisa - and I'm really glad you found your way here.

I'm a brooklyn based watercolor artist, though I tend to wander into gouache, pastel, acrylic, color pencil...

it all started with photography. some of my favorite memories are wandering around my childhood home with a piece of fruit or a potted plant, chasing golden hour light. or heading outdoors after an ice storm to photograph branches and leaves suspended in a clear, frozen shell. quiet, ordinary beauty.

later on, modern art museums started pulling me in a different direction - toward abstraction and the unexpected. the funkier, the better. surrealism in photography always had a hold on me too (shoutout Bess Bieluczyk's Subtle Hysteria, a forever favorite of mine).

my pieces are inspired by the world around me and the colors I encounter on a daily basis. I hope the color blends and salty patterns bring a little joy, and maybe a quiet pop of something unexpected to wherever they land.
